Disneyland for Grown Ups and Adults
DIsneyland Rides - Radiator Springs

Ride All Your Favorite Rides! Here’s How…

This is your one stop shop for deciphering the rides at Disneyland. Rides are fabulous, but lines can be long and options intimidating. The weapons you have in your ride arsenal are the Disneyand App, time of day, Fast Pass, and single rider. Here’s how to effectively use them so you can ride all the great rides on your visit!

Disneyland rides are the absolute best.  Disney goes to exceptional lengths to assure safety, cleanliness and optimal experience.  Wait queues are filtered through shaded aisles – many offer visual and audio displays to help pass the time. Even smells are monitored to ensure they are clean and ride appropriate. Indoor lines/rides maintain comfortable temperatures and humidity levels. With a little planning you can enjoy all these ride experiences with minimal wait times..

The Disneyland App:

The Disneyland App is headquarters central for all rides. It gives you real-time information including; location, wait times, Fast Pass availability, ride restrictions, accessibility, location and description. Use it to monitor your rides and Fast Passes during your visit.

Disneyland For Grownups - Disneyland App Ride Detail

Time of Day:

  • Get there at park opening (30 minutes prior is best) and go to the most popular ride first (See below for "Rides by Popularity").
  • Get your first Fast Pass (at its Fast Pass terminal or with Max Pass on your Disneyland App) immediately after you enter the park.
  • If you weren't able to get to a ride during the day, wait until just before park closing. Lines are shorter - and as long as you are in line by park closing - you will be able to ride.

Fast Pass

Fast Passes are available to all Disneyland Parks guests. Fast Passes allow you to board some rides with “preferred” priority at a special Fast Pass ride entrance that is much shorter than the regular (Stand By) queue. You can get a free Fast Pass at the ride’s Fast Pass terminal or purchase Max Pass to get a Fast Pass on your Disneyland App.

Fast Pass is EXTREMELY important – so we’ve devoted a whole page on the topic. See “FAST PASS” for details.

Addtionally, Max Pass is a wonderful new feature you must consider if you love rides. See “MAX PASS” for details.

Single Rider:

If you can't land a Fast Pass for your favorite ride, single rider is a backup option. (Be aware that even though the Disneyland Guide Map or Disneyland App lists a single rider option, especially during short wait times, the ride may not offer it.) Here's some single rider scoops by ride:

  • Radiator Springs (California Adventure):
    • Single rider can be faster than Fast Pass.
    • Single rider is ALWAYS a shorter wait than the stand by line.
    • Ask the cast member at the ride entrance for the single rider estimated wait time. If it’s too long, check back later.
  • Incredicoaster (California Adventure):
    • Single rider isn’t always available at this ride
    • Cast members have quick load windows and can’t call single riders for empty seats at times.  Single rider waits can exceed stand by waits.
  • Indiana Jones (Disneyland):
    • Ask the cast members at the ride entrance for a “single rider” pass.
    • Single rider times can be slow. If regular Stand By waits are 45″ or more, try it.  Otherwise, you may be waiting longer than the regular line.
  • Matterhorn (Disneyland):
    • The single rider entrance is the same as the Fast Pass entrance. A cast member will give you a “single rider” pass and show you where to wait.
    • Depending on the on the priority of using single riders, single rider lines can be quick or very slow. If you don’t move in the single ride line after 10-15 minutes, consider coming back another time.

    • Incredicoaster
    • Toy Story
    Disneyland Park

More Tips:

  • Large bags/backpacks can be difficult on some rides.  Consider renting a locker.
  • TAKE OFF HATS, SUN GLASSES and MICKEY EARS before your ride!!  They fly off easily – speaking from experience.
  • Keep checking your Disneyland App for wait times.
    • Sometimes a ride will shut down temporarily, but…
    • …keep an eye on that ride.  When it re-opens, the lines can be shorter.
